BSG -- I dare you

I'd like to start this blog post off with a funny quote from the Office......

"Bears. Beets. Battlestar Gallactica."

Well, I may not have anything to say about bears or beets, but I will embarrass myself and prove how geeky I am by saying something about Battlestar Gallactica.

So, you know how there is nothing good on during the summer, right? since all the primetime shows are over and all they do are reruns or bad summer series like "America's Got Talent"....

Well, I decided that I would use my Netflix to entertain myself this summer. I figured I would rent a TV series that I had never seen before and try to watch several seasons of it. When I was looking for something interesting to rent, I remembered the above quoted line from The Office.....and I thought, "I wonder...."

Well, I rented it and I received the first disk when Sarah was away for something (vacation or meeting or something...I don't remember). All I remember was sitting at home watching the first "pilot" episode mini-series thing for 2 straight hours. And when it was all over, I was absolutely hooked. It was incredible!

I have been watching it ever since....getting one disk of the season at a time, watching 3-4 episodes, sending the disk back and then getting the next disk a few days later. I am now entering the final season (Season 4) and I hope to finish before the baby comes. I must say that it has been one of my favorite sci-fi series that I have ever seen....probably because they do more with the show than just sci-fi. It is a drama, it has action, it has intrigue, it has mystery....it is just a lot of fun to watch.

So, I dare ya......I dare ya to pick up the first season and watch the kick-off miniseries that started it all. And if you don't get hooked...well then I'll buy you a pizza ;)

Ooooh....my Baby looks so Baillio!

It's official....chubby cheeks and duck mouth. Familiar Baillio traits are apparent in my baby, even when his face is smushed right now. I couldn't help but giggle as I got the photo. The next time I 'see' my baby, it will be in person!! Crazy huh?

A Moment of Silence

Now that all the festivities are over, I just wanted to give a moment to my Grandmother. She passed away the 23rd of Oct. That was the day before our Halloween party and it was kind of unexpected. So, now that I don't have to entertain anyone, I just wanted to remember her and pay tribute to her.

I am especially thankful that we were able to visit her this summer. It was the last time we were able to see her. I hope she felt how much we appreciated her and how much we loved her. She got us some bedding for our baby boy. So, now we will always have something to remember her by, and our son will always have a reminder of his Grandmother.

We loved her and have lots of happy memories going to her house for holidays and meeting her in San Marcos and growing up close with her. She'll be missed, but I know she is in a better place and learning more about the Plan of Salvation. That's why I love the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ. We know that we can live together again after this life. And we can live as families, all thanks to the teachings and ordinances of the Temple. So, it's not really goodbye, but just a see you soon ;) Love you Grandma!

Murder Mystery Halloween Party

Every year, Sarah and I debate whether or not we will throw another Halloween party. We've been doing them ever since we got married, mostly because it is one of our favorite holdiays and the decorations are so fun.

Anyways, we didn't know if we would this year since our apartment is so small, but we played around with the idea of doing a quiet dinner party -- maybe a murder mystery dinner. We liked the idea, but our place still felt too small so we decided to have the party at Sarah's parents house.

We found a game online that allows you to integrate dinner into the game, but not require that you sit around the table the whole night. It allowed for bribery, extortion, and murder! (all pretend of course). So, we sent out the invites and started preparing. Let me say -- it was a lot of fun!

This is the dinner table (in black and white). The rolls there are little spiders....we dipped them into a witches brew (chilli). It was a lot of fun!

This was the outside decorations -- I made a pumpkin that had the "swine flu" and was throwing up and bellowing smoke out of his mouth. It was neat.
The kids kept saying, "I wanna go see the pumpkin with smoke coming out of his mouth". I liked it!

This is the group of characters -- all costumes were very inventive and everybody did a great job acting out their parts!

This were the sugar cookies Sarah made and I helped to ice -- there were a ton of them!! I took forever ;)

And of course, I love Halloween because it is the one time I have an excuse to look so scary! So, I bought this fun little costume and freaked everybody out ;)

I think next year I will use the gauze and put it over torn jeans and a white t-shirt and be a Zombie. Then I can dress up our little baby as a Brain! Funny huh?

It was a fun party....it took a while for people to get into the game but once the game was off and rolling, people did a great job acting and having fun!

Now to start planning for next year................

Calabasas is spanish for PUMPKINS

Every year, the town we live in has a festival in October. It is the pumpkin festival!
They had a reptile exhibit that I loved....I got lots of pictures and even got to hold a snake! Good thing Sarah wasn't with me because she would have freaked out ;)

They had lots of artisan stands and food stands and all of them were in the theme of Halloween and all things pumpkin! There was this one street vendor who was spray painting pumpkins and they looked super awesome.

These are some other pictures of the sights and sounds of the festival. It was so much fun ;) Well, it wasn't as fun as it could have been because Sarah wasn't there. But, definitely next year (if we are still living here), we will have to take our son to the pumpkin festival in Calabasas!!

A Trip to Atlanta

This past weekend I spent in Atlanta for a Moot Court Competition. I wish I could say that we swept the competition and dazzled the judges, but we didn't. It was my first time to a competition and I guess we didn't seem as "polished" as other teams. Oh well. At least we won some of our rounds even though we didn't get to the quarter finals.

Since we didn't progress through to the finals, we had some free time to explore Atlanta -- which we did! (we being my coach, myself, another team from my school, and their coach).

We went to the Coca-cola factory and had lots of samples of coke from around the world. We also got to take a picture with their polar bear mascot!

We walked around the Olympic Park as well as went inside the CNN center (where they tape all their shows and produce them).

We also stayed at my teammate's ranch for a little bit -- his dad is an exec at Chic-fil-a and so they have a beautiful home south of Atlanta. We loved being on the grounds and taking in all the beauty nature offered.

There was this awesome burger place featured on the TV show "Top Chef" that we ate at. I got a Chorizo burger....so awesomely good. Just look at the picture...doesn't that look amazing?

It was a long weekend -- especially away from my pregnant wife -- and the flight home was a nightmare, but at least now I am home and done with this competition! Life should get easier from here on out ;) (oh wait....I'm having a baby in 60 days....life won't get easier....)
